Cypriot property consultant says he was not paid for consultancy work
By SARAH FALTER The Associated PressNew Orleans (AP) — A Cypriots property consultant who claims he was paid for work on behalf of his country’s government has filed a lawsuit claiming that he was discriminated against because of his ethnicity and that his pay was not comparable to other foreign contractors.
Lawyers for the consulting firm Cyprian Capital Consultants, LLC, filed a federal lawsuit Wednesday against the Cyprio Government in New Orleans.
The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in New York, says the company is not a foreign government contractor.
The suit is the latest to target foreign companies working in Cyprus, where a series of financial and economic crises has left a number of companies and governments unable to pay their workers.
Cyprios Finance Minister Yannis Stournaras and Prime Minister Nicos Anastasiades have denied any wrongdoing.
