Which is the best property in Montpellier?
Montpelliers real estate consultants are out to get you, they’re targeting your favourite neighbourhoods, and they’re using your personal data to get what they want.
The city has been on edge this week, with a massive manhunt for two men suspected of shooting dead two people and injuring a third at a bar in the trendy west end.
But according to one property consultant, they are also targeting the city’s very heart, the West End.
The city’s real estate agent, Alain Delvigne, says he’s been inundated with emails from property consultants offering their services since Friday, when the first two shots were fired in the West Side’s West End neighbourhood.
He says his firm, Arenton Property Consulting, has received hundreds of calls and text messages from people who want to do business with him, which is good news for those who live in the area.
“I don’t think the police are really going to care who’s calling, because this is an area where we know how to get the business and we know what the market is going to be, he said.
But some property consultants are concerned that their clients could be the target of a more sinister threat.
In the weeks leading up to the shooting on Friday, several property consultants and former city employees told The Globe and Mail they were concerned about potential data breaches that could be used to identify people who live and work in the neighbourhood.
Some have contacted the RCMP, which says it has a presence in the city and that there are no known threats to the city.
Others are concerned about the potential for cyber attacks or even blackmail, and believe the police could be complicit in the attacks.”
It’s not like there’s no threat, but I think the city is under attack,” said Delvignes lawyer, Laurent St. Aubin.
Delvigne says his firms have been in contact with city officials and are monitoring the situation.
But he has not heard anything about a threat against the city, and he says he hasn’t heard from any property consultants who have spoken to him.
Arenton has already confirmed it has had a phone call from one of the men accused of shooting at the bar on Friday night.
A spokesperson for the City of Montpelliere told The Canadian Press that it was not a city employee who made the call, and the person who answered the phone did not want to comment on the matter.””
We have been following the situation closely and have not received any further information from the city or police regarding the shooting incident,” he said in an email.
A spokesperson for the City of Montpelliere told The Canadian Press that it was not a city employee who made the call, and the person who answered the phone did not want to comment on the matter.
“The City of Montreal takes all reports of suspected cyber attacks very seriously and our security teams are working with our partners to protect against any possible threats,” the spokesperson said.
Montpellier has been under intense scrutiny in recent weeks after it was revealed that a number of young people in the town had recently become homeless.
In addition to the two men who died on Friday at the Westend bar, another 21 people were reported to have moved to the area between the beginning of the year and the beginning, when they moved into a tent on a nearby farm.
The allegations against the men who shot them come as the province of Quebec announced a series of new measures, including a ban on new developments on land that is not already developed.
